Disney Animation’s Chief Creative Officer, Jennifer Lee, has officially announced the commencement of production for “Frozen 3,” which was greenlit earlier this year. During a keynote session at the London Film Festival (LFF), Lee, who played key roles in writing and directing the first two “Frozen” films, shared her excitement about the progress made on the project.
While keeping specific details about “Frozen 3” under wraps, including production status and timelines, Lee expressed her amazement at the studio’s efforts in bringing the sequel to life.
The announcement of “Frozen 3” followed Disney CEO Bob Iger’s confirmation of new sequels for beloved franchises like “Toy Story” and “Zootopia” in February 2023. The original “Frozen” film, released in 2014, received two Oscars, including Best Animated Feature and Best Song. Its sequel, “Frozen 2,” achieved immense success with a global box office revenue of $1.45 billion, and the song “Into the Unknown” received a Best Original Song nomination at the 2020 Academy Awards.
In addition to the film franchise, Disney is expanding the Frozen universe at its theme parks. A new World of Frozen land is set to open on November 20, 2023, at Hong Kong Disneyland, offering visitors an immersive experience. Meanwhile, at Tokyo DisneySea, construction is underway for a Frozen-themed section in the new port called Fantasy Springs, adding to the magic of the Disney experience.
Jennifer Lee’s confirmation of “Frozen 3” production has sparked excitement among fans eager to return to the enchanting world of Elsa, Anna, and Olaf.
